Tapping it Out: Home Beer Kegs
There are many different websites and books on how to home brew beer, which list the common equipment needed as well as the different ingredients and recipes that can be used in home brewing beer. One choice that has to be made during the process is whether to use bottles or to use home beer kegs to complete the process and provide a place for the beer to go through secondary fermentation before being ready for consumption. Home beer kegs are a great idea for those who enjoy brewing beer to be used at various parties for friends and family since it is easy to tap and use, providing scrumptious home made draft beer for all those attending.
Home beer kegs can be found as a part of home brewing kits, in which all of the primary ingredients can be found for the beer making process. These kits will provide home beer kegs that are already sanitized and ready to go so that the individual has one less thing to do in the beer making process. In addition, the beer making kit makes the beer making process more fail-safe, rather than messing with different recipes, especially for the beginner beer maker.
Other Equipment
Other than the home beer keg and beer making kit, there is other equipment that is needed in order to complete the beer making process. One item is the primary fermenter with the airlock and stopper. This item has to be ordered online or bought at a brewing shop because it is specially made for the beer making process. This item is what the wort is poured into so that it can sit, airtight, for three to five days to begin fermenting. The carbon dioxide is allowed to escape through the airlock without letting air from the outside to get into the system. This ensures that it will not explode from the fermentation process. It also allows individuals to see when the air bubbles stop coming into the airlock so that they know when the primary fermentation process is complete and the beer is ready for bottling and the second stage of fermentation where it becomes carbonated.
Other pieces of equipment include the brew pot in which the wort is cooked, the bottling bucket, a plastic hose, saucepans, stirring spoons and pot holders. In addition, once the beer is placed into the keg, the keg will need to be placed in a dark place where it can sit undisturbed for at least two weeks before it will be ready for consumption.
